Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my “Defense and Beer of the Week” segment.

After hitting Kansas City’s biggest brewery in a video edition of the Beer of the Week last week, this week’s edition will focus on a small, recently opened brewery in Brookside. This week’s Beer of the Week is a brand new beer by BKS Artisan Ales called Sum of Things IV!

The fourth in a revolving series of experimental IPAs, Sum of Things IV is a 6.8% IPA with Sorachi Ace, Mosaic and (one of my favorites) Citra hops. Using a new base malt to enhance the flavor and aroma of their IPA, BKS has created a crisp beer that’s great for patio drinking as the weather starts to cool down. It’s only available at the brewery, so those outside of Kansas City are unfortunately out of luck, but if you’re a KC native or you’re visiting, you’ve got to stop by to try out this experimental IPA.

After home-brewing for eight years, BKS Artisian Ales opened in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood in December of 2017 by co-owners Brian and Mary Rooney. Initially open just one day during the week, BKS saw lines out the door demanding their offerings of hoppy beers, Belgian and English styles, and American Stouts. Currently open from Noon to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays, BKS is the perfect spot to stop by when you’re out and about on a weekend afternoon to sit on the patio and enjoy one of their fine brews. They have various cans and bottles to take home with you for your enjoyment later as well!

I had the luxury of stopping by last weekend to sample their lineup, and everything I had was wonderful. I especially recommend all of their IPAs and Pale Ales, and you stout fans out there will love Holstein, their Milk Stout (currently infused with Oddly Correct Coffee Roasters Ethiopian Layo Taraga Coffee). I got to talk with Brian while I was there and he’s a great guy that cares about their beers, and it shows in the end product.

So Kansas City, get out to Brookside and support a new local brewery, and tell them Craig Stout and Arrowhead Pride sent you!

Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
