Now this is a sustainability effort which I can easily get on board with.

"Big Beer has taken important strides to improve sustainability this year, with brands like Carlsberg and Corona announcing eco-friendly packaging upgrades. The move has not gone unnoticed by Big Cereal, apparently. Kellogg’s announced a collaboration with U.K.-based Seven Bro7thers Brewery to turn leftover corn flakes into beer."

If not, I am sure that could be livestock feed as well...

    Yup.

I saw a TV news piece that reject potato chips (from a local company Herrs) are used as feed for nearby cows. The video showed them putting the potato chips into troughs and the cows came running. The cows actually looked happy when they were munching on the chips.

    Cheers!

P.S. Perhaps cows look happy no matter what they eat?

True, but which is in shorter supply? Good beer or cattle feed?

Basic message. That roast beef on your dining room table is like both politics and sausage, you don't want to know what goes into it....

Now that's an adjunct I can appreciate. How about some Cheeri-Oatmeal Stout? I'd be all in.
As well they should. Herr's chips kick ass!

Kellogg's Corn Flakes might be OK for beer, but give me beer brewed with Frumentum Corn Flakes ...

Flaked corn was being made for the US brewing industry starting in the late 19th century.

According to 1903's 100 Years of Brewing, "The "Frumentum" flakes is as thin as a sheet of ordinary tissue-paper and of a pure white color".

Three breweries local to me (Boulevard, Casual Animal, and Crane) all support feed efforts for local livestock. Thinking back to regional brewery tours I've done, 'Lugene' is named for the livestock farmer who picks up O'Dell's spent grain for feed.

    @JackHorzempa

Locals are voicing their dissatisfaction to a local brewery shutting down production, with the headline being 'lucky charms beer brewery shutting down production'. Personally, I haven't voiced any dissatisfaction. The occasions I've been there, I've found their beer to be... milding in satisfaction. Perhaps they've done better since then with the pouring of outreach since that headline aired, but I'm not keen to try cereal grain in beer anymore.

Every part of the cow/pig should be used. That's my opinion. No matter where down the line that happens. I make stocks ,marrow, and butcher parts for my dog. I wish the same for all places I go, if possible.

Flaked corn has been used in brewing for a long time. Degermed (oil from the Germ removed) corn is run through heated rollers to geletinize it, no need to cook it in cereal cookers.

Corn flakes are a little different, they are corn, sugar and malt extract for flavor. They are also fortified with vitines and minerals, such as iron. Adding iron is good for human health, but not good for beer stability as it causes oxidation at lower levels, off flavors in higher levels.

Point of clarification. The German is removed, which removes the oil. The oil can cause head retention issues, and go stale/rancid.

Curious as to what they might be doing with corn flakes to compensate for those shortcomings.
