Arrowhead Pride Beer of the Week: Bell’s Brewery Two Hearted Ale

Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.

With the Chiefs traveling to Cleveland for a game against the Browns, I got to choose one of my favorites from the Great Lakes area for this week’s selection. This week’s Beer of the Week is none other than Bell’s Brewery Two Hearted Ale!

A 7% ABV India Pale Ale, Two Hearted is brewed with 100 percent Centennial hops to give this beer a delicious pine and grapefruit punch. The fruity esters from Bell’s house yeast — one of my favorites — and a good malt backbone make this an utterly drinkable beer. Two Hearted is even distributing mini-kegs this month for your tailgating pleasure!

Started by Larry Bell, Bell’s Brewery sold their first commercial beer in September of 1985 under the name of Kalamazoo Brewing Company, brewed out of a 15-gallon soup pot. By the end of 1990, Bell’s was shipping more than 500 barrels annually and started distributing outside of their home state of Michigan. In 2005, the brewery renamed to Bell’s Brewery. They currently are distributed to thirty states, including Kansas and Missouri.

Outside of Two Hearted, Bell’s makes a full line of approachable beers, from Oberon Ale — a wheat — Lager of the Lakes — a bohemian pilsner — all the way to Kalamazoo Stout — an American stout brewed with brewer’s licorice. Bell’s truly has a little bit of something for everybody.
