Wednesday, January 23

Over at P.S. Speakeasy (106 West 12th Street) they’re hosting Andy Rieger, descendent of the original Rieger distillery family as well as partner in today’s J. Rieger & Company brand, for “Cocktails and Conversation,” an event that highlights successful KC entrepreneurs. Each $10 ticket includes admission as well as one cocktail. RecordBar (1520 Grand Boulevard) is hosting Laura Norris of Ragazza for Ragazza’s final pop-up before it opens its new location on Main Street. Get in at 6:30 p.m. for Ragazza’s Italian comfort foods, Limoncello cocktails and music from Rex Hobart. Tickets are $50, and are available via Eventbrite.

Thursday, January 24

Chefs Amante Domingo and Daniel Nutty are hosting a collaboration supper club event at the Russell (3141 Main Street), just the second in a series of dinners hosted at the midtown restaurant, which is normally open only for lunch. On the menu: cold-smoked shrimp toast with charred avocado and flying fish roe, a wild boar chop with wood-fired polenta cake, “40-Clove” chicken, and much more. The dinner is $100 a person, with wine pairings available for an additional $25 (this does not include tax or gratuity). A smoked brisket and lager pie, smoked Cornish game hen with broccoli and cheese risotto, and homemade bread pudding are among the items on tonight’s KC Bier Company beer dinner at Smokin Guns BBQ (1218 Swift Avenue). For the next few months, you can find Seven Swans Creperie (normally a mobile food truck) stationed inside of a warehouse in the Crossroads at 1815 Charlotte Street. Pick up Kate Bryan’s very good, sweet-and-savory-stuffed and traditional crepes, and/or a steaming bowl of homemade borscht. Seven Swans Creperie is open Thursday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, January 26

Together, Veg Life KC and VegFest Kansas City  are throwing a “wing bowl” at the City Market (20 East 5th Street) today from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is designed to encourage restaurants to show off their skills in creating plant-based alternatives and encourage attendees to make their own meat-free options for Super Bowl parties. Each $20 ticket includes light appetizers, two drinks, and wing samples. Pick up tickets here.

From 1-4 p.m. today, head down to the Stockyards District for the 8th Annual Big Chill Festival, hosted by Stockyards Brewing Company (1600 Gennessee Street). The festival has set itself apart as an opportunity to sample lots of strong beers and chili. Participating breweries include Stockyards Brewing Co., The Big Rip Brewing Company, Casual Animal Brewing Co., Cinder Block Brewery, Crane Brewing Company, Double Shift Brewing Company, Lawrence Beer Company and more. Tickets run $40-$70 and are available for advance purchase via Eventbrite.

Enjoy the rare opportunity to dine in Crane Brewing Company‘s barrel room on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The brewery is hosting chef Chad Tillman for a four-course dinner, which includes four paired beers to accompany the meal. Guests will be served dishes including a pork shank braised in Crane’s Omar porter, and a grilled tri-tip sirloin served with Robuchon potatoes and a green chile hollandaise. Tickets are $55 apiece ($60.40 with fees) and can be purchased here.

Learn more about the wines of Burgundy — some of the most celebrated in the world — during a tasting class at Cellar Rat Merchants (1701 Baltimore Avenue). As you taste different wines, including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, you will learn about how the land affects grapes and winemaking. Tickets are $40; walk-ins available.

Chef Linda Duerr and visiting chef Christopher Haatuft (executive chef of the celebrated restaurant Lysverket in Norway) are crafting a five-course dinner at the Restaurant at 1900 (1900 Shawnee Mission Parkway). The meal highlights the aquaculture industry and follows a discussion the day before with chef Haatuft and industry representative Magdalena Wallhoff.
