Arrowhead Pride Beer of the Week: Stillwater Artisanal Ales Cellar Door

Looking for something to drink this weekend? Let Craig tell you about this week’s Beer of the Week!

Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.

With a game against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, I went with a brew that originated in Baltimore, Maryland, for this week’s offering. This week’s Beer of the Week is Stillwater Artisanal Ales Cellar Door!

A 6.6% ABV saison, Cellar Door is a fantastic beer for those looking to take their game up from generic wheat beers, as well as those that are well-established saison lovers. German wheat and pale malts give a slightly hazy foundation to the beer. Complimenting that are the Sterling and Citra hops, imparting some herbal grass and tangerine flavors to the beer. To top it all off, a little bit of white sage is added to the beer to give it a hint of spice. The funky saison yeast coupled with all of these elements makes it a beer that is simultaneously complex and approachable.

Stillwater Artisanal Ales was started by an electronic DJ and producer named Brian Strumke in 2004. Strumke began brewing in his backyard in Baltimore and quickly became known for his off-the-beaten-path brews, mixing together spices and wild yeasts to create beers that were highly regarded within the craft beer scene. Stillwater is known as a “nomadic” brewery in that their beers aren’t manufactured in one single location — instead utilizing the excess capacity of other breweries around the world to make their beer. Their can designs lean heavily on modern art concepts, with a stated brewery goal of synthesizing art and beer. They are truly a brewery that thinks outside the box.

If you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Stillwater Artisanal Ales Cellar Door this weekend!
