Raise a Glass to the Royals with these Two Drinks
The Prince Harry Ginger Shandy is the simple drink you need at 6 in the morning.

My invitation to the upcoming nuptials of Prince Henry Charles Albert David (aka, “Harry”) and Ms. Rachel Meghan Markle seems to be lost in the mail. It’s really too bad because I already purchased my fascinator.
If its replacement never arrives, no matter, for I still plan on celebrating the Royal Wedding on May 19 in my own Texas castle with some themed refreshments, including two cocktails I have designed for the occasion. The recipes are designed to reflect the convergence of the American and British cultural roots of the bride and groom, respectively, with each drink effectively serving as a potable symbol of the merry merger.
For Ms. Markle—assumed soon-to-be Duchess of Sussex—we have Maison Jolie Brut, a lovely (and affordable) California sparkling wine in homage to her home state with Royal Rose syrup to represent the “English Rose” she will become upon assuming British citizenship.
As a salute to Prince Harry, I will be mixing up a refreshing shandy comprising a steam beer produced by Golden State brewers and topped with English ginger (get it?) beer.

Megan Markle Sparkling Rose Cocktail
Ingredients
- Maison Jolie Brut (a Cali sparkling wine)
- Royal Rose Syrup
- Pink sugar/sprinkles
Directions
- Fill small shallow bowl with rose syrup. Fill another with pink sugar.
- Dip top (circumference) of champagne flute in rose syrup.
- Dip again in sugar to coat rim of flute.
- Fill 3/4 with sparkling wine.

Ingredients
- Anchor Steam Beer
- Fentiman's Ginger Beer
Directions
- Fill a chilled pint glass about half full with steam beer.
- Fill remainder with ginger beer.
Enjoy with fellow Anglophiles while watching royal wedding live (i.e., 6 a.m. CST).
