Hop to it: BrewDog are bringing the craft beer revolution to Dublin

It wasn’t just about the difference between lager and stout anymore, people soon began to discuss beer the way they would discuss wine. But the conversation was better; sure we can’t produce our own wine in Ireland but we can brew our own beer and we had so much to talk about, so much to be proud of.

People waxed poetic about the difference among varieties; grains, hop and yeast varieties were mentioned; food and beer pairings were pondered over; quirky and arty beer labels were examined with interest. Beer became much more than just, well… beer. It evolved into a national fascination and a cultural celebration.

This summer it’s breaking into the Irish festival scene with a craft beer-dedicated festival. BrewDog’s Cinematic Circus rolls into town this Saturday at Weston Airport. The hybrid festival bears a one-size-fits-all mentality to suit all tastes. With an incredible airport location, a solid selection of drinks, a place to relax, copious amounts of food trucks to choose from and movie screenings and live music, it’s the perfect weekend wind down. Established by our Scottish neighbours who brought us BrewDog - these guys know how to deliver on the good bits.

They’re hosting a series of single-night parties with a focus on beer, live music and cult movies and Weston Airport is the first stop on its tour.

The festival takes place from 4pm until late and tickets are €16. Inside the festival, there’ll be 120 taps of freshly brewed beers to choose from, including Wexford’s YellowBelly, the Kildare Brewing Company, Wicklow Wolf, Stone Barrel, Dot Brew and Rival Sons. There’ll be some international flavour in the form of Hazy Jane, Jet Trash and a few extra-special beers at the higher end of the ABV spectrum.

There’ll also be wine courtesy of Wine Lab and independent distillers, Lone Wolf, will be offering thirst-quenching cocktails and mixers from their handcrafted gin, whiskey and vodka selections.

Street food vendors will be dotted all across the festival with tasty offerings from Dough Kitchen Pizza, Oh Yeah Doughnuts, Flamin’ Good BBQ and O’Brien's Traditional Ice-Cream.

Kubrick’s cult, classic The Shining will be screened from Ireland’s largest mobile outdoor HD screen. Live music on the day will be provided by some of Ireland’s best buskers and Mullingar’s Fallen Lights.

There’ll be also be a mind-bending performance from Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Circus of Horrors, packed with fire, sword and acrobatic stunts.

And after years of perpetual teasing it seems the Irish weather has decided to finally reward us with a real summer, so sunshine is (almost) guaranteed.

Tickets are available to over 18's and are priced at just €16. BrewDog is operating Challenge 25 on the door and at all bars if you look under 25 be prepared to show that ID.

Transport

BrewDog have made it easy to get to and from Weston Airport with free parking on site. A free non-alcoholic BrewDog Nanny State beer will be provided to designated drivers at the event.

A complementary bus service will operate from collection points at Leixlip and Celbridge every 15 minutes between 4 and 10pm and a later service will take people from the event to Leixlip and Celbridge between 10pm and 1.30am.

The 67 Dublin bus service stops directly outside the front gate on Celbridge Road and from there it’s just a short walk to the venue. The bus departs from Merrion Square with stops on the router through O’Connell Bridge, Parkgate Street, Chapelizod, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Lucan Village and Celbridge.

Hazelhatch train service is situated nearby and buses will service this route between 4pm and 11pm. The station is a six-minute walk to Weston Airport.
