Anheuser-Busch, Anheuser-Busch Invests In Glass Recycling Efforts

When it comes to sustainability efforts, you’ve got to give Anheuser-Busch its due. The world’s largest brewer has made an ambitious commitment to the planet’s resources that it continues to build on.

Here’s the deal

Last April Anheuser-Busch announced its US 2025 Sustainability Goals and they are as ambitious as they are impressive.

Building upon on the 2025 Global Sustainability Goals recently announced by the brewer’s parent company AB InBev, Anheuser-Busch’s US sustainability efforts through 2025 include:

  • Renewable Electricity and Carbon Reduction: 100% of purchased electricity will come from renewable sources; and CO2 emissions across the value chain will be reduced by 25%
  • Water Stewardship: 100% of facilities will be engaged in water efficiency efforts; and 100% of communities in high stress areas will have measurably improved water availability and quality
  • Smart Agriculture: 100% of direct farmers will be highly skilled, connected and financially empowered
  • Circular Packaging: 100% of packaging will be made from majority recycled content or will be returnable

And as part of  the company’s commitment to “Circular Packaging” Anheuser-Busch just announced a $250,000 investment to support Closed Loop Fund projects in Texas that will  improve glass recycling capabilities throughout the region.

“We have a long history of finding innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint and through this partnership look forward to continuing that tradition in our local Texas communities,”

“Together with our Houston and Karbach breweries and Longhorn Glass, we are thrilled to be working with the Closed Loop Fund in Texas to further our 2025 Sustainability Goals as we strive to achieve our dream of building a better world.”

Founded in 2014, Closed Loop Fund is a social impact investment fund that provides cities access to the capital required to build comprehensive recycling programs. The fund’s goal is to invest $100 million by 2025 in those efforts that will “create economic value for cities by increasing recycling rates in communities across America and build circular supply chains.”

Investing in the Closed Loop Fund projects will enable Anheuser-Busch to increase the percentage of recycled glass used at its Longhorn production facility as part of its commitment to using 100% majority recycled or returnable packaging by 2025.
