New virility beer brewed using a superfood and a fertility god

Drinking beer offers us lots of things: namely deliciousness, and relaxation. But a new beer coming out of Cerne Abbas, a parish in Dorset, England, aims even higher. Combining the superfood of watercress and idolatry of a fertility god, the Daily Echo reports that “Watercress Company has teamed up with the Cerne Abbas Brewery to produce Watercress Warrior.”

The DE points out that the watercress-rich beer offers unusual beer bonuses: “As well as being rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, watercress is also known to increase virility.” Cerne Abbas is one of the first places that watercress was grown, and is also the home of a considerable fertility tourist attraction as well as a brewery. So the Watercress Warrior label features a simple sketch of the Cerne Abbas Giant, a 180-foot tall chalk figure of a naked man and an ancient symbol of fertility: “couples wanting to conceive have been known to go there and get amorous on top of the giant’s 35-foot manhood.”

Sounds like quite the combo for those looking for a bit of a sexual bonus with their beer. The resulting ale, according to tasters, is pleasantly fruity with a bit of “pepperiness on the finish,” thanks to that watercress addition. No research yet available on Watercress Warrior drinkers’ post-pub activities.
