Craft Breweries in St Louis Growing Faster Than The National Average (St Louis, MO) – Both in terms of the number of operating craft breweries and the amount of beer being produced, St. Louis has outpaced the national average over the last decade according to the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

Since St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch was sold to Belgium’s InBev for $52 billion in 2008, the number of craft breweries operating in the city has more than quadrupled from 12 to 52. Craft beer production in St Louis grew even more quickly as well, from nearly 31,000 barrels annually to more than 143,000, an amazing 365% increase.

Missouri, Anheuser-Busch’s home for more than 150 years before it was acquired by Belgian-based A-B InBev “recently saw its market share slip below 60 percent for the first time in more than a century.” In the ten years that have passed since that infamous acquisition more than 46 new craft breweries have opened in St Louis according to the Brewers Association.

Words To Drink By (St Louis, MO) – “You go to towns on the west coast that are the same size of St. Louis and there are 60 or 70 breweries there…so the opportunity for others is there.” – Mike Sweeny / 2nd Shift Brewing
