Dunkin’ Donuts Does Beer

Dunkin, Dunkin’ Donuts Does Beer

Well it’s not that they’re brewing a beer (they brew coffee) but they are collaborating with another New England company known for brewing, on a coffee infused brew.

Here’s the deal…

Whether the world was asking for it or not, Dunkin’ Donuts will be lending its name to a new beer according to the Tenemu crew who discovered a label for the upcoming beer filed with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and broke the news that the infamous donut purveyor would be doing a beer this fall with Harpoon Brewing.

And it’s not like Dunkin’ Donuts is new to the beer biz.

Dunkin, Dunkin’ Donuts Does BeerJust last December they ‘collaborated’ with another Massachusetts-based operation, Wormtown Brewery, on something they called DDark Roasted Brew Stout. But unlike Dunkin’ Donuts upcoming effort that one-time limited release was only offered on tap at Wormtown (hence no label that needed to be approved).

Boston.com was excited enough about the prospect that they chased down a Harpoon spokesperson who did confirm Tenemu’s discovery.

So if the world doesn’t end in the near future it appears that this Dunkin’ Donut Beer is ON!

But although this project is ON…Dunkin’ Donut fanatics will have to wait until “sometime around late October to early November — when coffee beers come into season.”

And it sound like this upcoming coffee beer is going to be the kinda thing you might expect from both Dunkin Donuts and Harpoon (no disrespect to either company).

Harpoon Dunkin’ Coffee Porter promises to be exactly that, a dark brown 6% ABV Porter that as the label explains was creafted as a “tribute to all the days that Dunkin’ has helped us fire up the brew kettle.”

Harpoon spokesperson Chris Bonacci further explained to Boston’s Nik DeCosta-Klipa that although the two companies have “worked together before on internal products for private events and functions…those pilot batches never went much further than a single keg.”

But evidently all parties involved (as much as Dunkin’ Donuts was involved beyond lending its name, and we assume some coffee to the project) felt that this time around they had something worth sharing.
