Arrowhead Pride Beer of the Week: KC Bier Co Dunkel

It’s Friday afternoon, so that means it’s time for the Beer of the Week! Each week on Arrowhead Pride Radio on 610 Sports Radio (Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Arrowhead Time), I tag the end of my segment with a weekly beer recommendation, and this week was no different.

Ladies. Gentlemen. Beer drinkers. This week’s Beer of the Week is KC Bier Co Dunkel.

A Kansas City staple, KC Bier Co. Dunkel is a 5.1 percent German Brown Lager, showcasing the malty flavors of caramel and toasted bread. It’s low in bitterness, won’t sit heavy on your palate or your stomach and is highly drinkable, making it a perfect beer for any occasion. If you’re a traditional Macro-Brewery drinker, this is a great non-traditional beer to make a foray into the craft beer realm.

KC Bier Co. opened in 2014 with the goal of bringing traditional German-style bier to the Kansas City area. To accomplish this, the brewery utilizes decoction mashing techniques, natural carbonation, and the practice a modern interpretation of the Reinheitsgebot, or German Beer Purity Law standards. The Reinheitsgebot states that a beer may only utilize four permitted ingredients - malt, hops, water, and yeast. This means that the beers produced at KC Bier Co. are great, clean, crisp versions of the style they’re in, and it really helps show the great quality of the beer. From a personal standpoint, traditional German styles are my favorite beers. I brew a handful of German beers, and I always make sure to decoction mash them, naturally carbonate them, and follow the Reinheitsgebot as closely as I can. There’s nothing quite like a well-made German brew, and the KC Bier Co. Dunkel definitely fits that bill.
