One of Oregon’s Oldest Craft Brewpubs Will Close Next Month

Old-school brewery Alameda is shutting down, the Oregonian reports. The Fremont brewpub is the first to go, closing November 3, followed by the Southeast Portland production facility soon afterward. According to the Oregonian story, owner Matt Schumacher didn’t share why the brewery would close for “legal reasons.”

The brewpub recently started brunch service, earning a few positive reviews on Yelp; that being said, the restaurant’s rating has recently dipped, often thanks to “maddeningly bad service,” in the words of user James C. Still, Alameda held a spot on Eater Portland’s brewpub map in 2016, and got a somewhat positive shrug from Willamette Week in 2017.

Alameda opened in 1996, during the height of the United States’ first craft brewing boom. In those 22 years, the brewery won four medals at the Great American Beer Festival for its Black Bear XX Stout, all between 2003 and 2008. No word yet on where the team is headed next.
