The Kansas City brewer joins other breweries in partnering with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. to produce a special beer to raise money for California fire victims.

Kansas City Bier Co. signed a partnership agreement with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico, Calif., to brew a beer to raise money for victims of fires in California.

The beer is called Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, and more than 1,000 breweries nationwide agreed to make the beer and then donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund.

KC Bier Co. head brewer Karlton Graham grew up in California near the region devastated by the fires. He made a version of Resilience using a German lager yeast, so it will be an India Pale Lager instead of an India Pale Ale.

Resilience will be available for sale at the KC Bier Co. Bierhalle at 310 W. 79th St. in the Waldo neighborhood starting Dec. 18.

Steve Holle founded KC Bier Co. in late 2013. Its beers have been winning medals in national and international beer contests ever since.

The brewery won a gold medal at the 2018 U.S. Open Beer Championships for its Der Bauer Farmhouse Ale in the American-Belgo Style Ale category; silver medals for its Edelweiss (German Wheat category) and Pils (German Lager/Pilsener category); and a bronze medal for its top-selling beer, Dunkel (Munchner Dunkel category).

It won medals at the 2018 North American Beer Awards: a silver medal in the Bavarian-style Hefeweizen category and a bronze for its Winterbock in the Dopplebock category. It won a silver medal at the 2018 World Beer Cup — one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world — for its Winterbock lager in the German-style Doppelbock or Eisbock category.
