BrewDog’s new CEO of Beer, Andy Shaw

Who wouldn’t want to oversee BrewDog’s international growth with a title like CEO of Beer? BrewDog just hired an Ex Red Bull player to help manage what they call a period of accelerated growth…

Here’s what we know…

BrewDog has announced the appointment of Andy Shaw, a 14 year vet at Red Bull (most recently Managing Director of Red Bull UK), to the newly-created role of CEO of Beer.

Shaw also served as Red Bull’s  Managing Director of Spain and Portugal, and  as  the Sales and Marketing Manager for Europe over his almost decade and a half tenure.

In his new role, Shaw will be responsible for the global sales and marketing of BrewDog’s beer. According to BrewDog his new position was created “in order to provide additional senior strategic leadership as BrewDog enters a period of accelerated growth domestically and internationally”.

And BrewDog’s growth both in the UK as well as internationally has been borderline astronomical…

In 2010 BrewDog threw open the doors to their first UK bar in Aberdeen Scotland and they never looked back. The last time we counted the company had opened 40 BrewDog Bars in the UK including a new hub in London’s financial district and their first airport bar ever in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Last September they opened a new BrewDog Bar in Reykjavik, Iceland. And they followed that up last November with another new outlet in Budapest.

In 2019 BrewDog plans to open nine new bars in the UK, and eleven internationally including new outposts in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Hamburg, Toronto and Paris.beer, BrewDog Appoints New ‘CEO Of Beer’

So clearly, in his new position as CEO of Beer, Shaw will be busy…

This from BrewDog co-founder James Watt, a man seldom short for words…

“Andy’s impressive track record for championing a strategic, global vision is what makes him such an exciting addition to the BrewDog crew. His experience in working in a vibrant, bold, business famed for pushing the envelope is exactly what we need as we enter hyperdrive on our global vision.”

But the love fest didn’t stop there. Andy Shaw seemed excited to be overseeing a different brand (and buzz) and we expect he’ll be sleeping better with less Red Bull in his system…

“BrewDog’s feats over the last decade are a direct result of a culture of innovation and fearlessness. When many in the industry doubted and scoffed, James and Martin remained clear eyed and determined to change the world of beer for the better.”

“I’ve been impressed by them for the last ten years and I simply could not pass up the opportunity to join such a dynamic team in the next phase of growth.”

Gates appointment was but the latest top tier addition to BrewDog’s growing empire. Last November BrewDog appointed David Gates as managing director of its distilling arm, LoneWolf.

No slacker either, Gates had previously spent 27 years at Diageo, most recently as the managing director of Diageo Futures, a division of the business that developed innovation strategy and new product creation.
