Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.

With the Chiefs making the trip to the Pacific Northwest — and it being the holiday season — this week’s offering jumped out at me immediately. With a brewery location just outside of Seattle, this week’s Beer of the Week is none other than Rogue Ales Santa’s Private Reserve Ale!

A 7.9% ABV Belgian Dark Ale, this yearly release is a welcome change-up from the litany of winter stouts and porters that flood the market this time of year. Brewed with a base of Munich and Caramel malts, this Belgian Dark Ale comes out sweet and dry due to dark candied sugar and brown sugar additions. Tangerine and boysenberry additions give this sweet beer a little bit of a tart finish to go with the smooth malt body. It’s the perfect beer to drink next to the fire after a long day of celebrating with loved ones, rather to cap off the night or help forget about the day.

Rogue Ales was founded in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon by three Nike executives looking to get into the beer-making business. Named after the “Rogue Valley” area they were founded in, Rogue started by making three beers — an Amber, a Golden, and their Shakespeare Stout. They grew rapidly in size and quickly became one of the major names in craft brewing in the Pacific Northwest.

Rogue owns and operates their own Rogue Farms division, supplying ingredients and hops for their ales. They also own their own barrel-making company, which helps support their Rogue Spirits division — a purveyor of well-regarded whiskies, gins, and other liquors. Most know Rogue Ales from their Dead Guy Ale, but they aren’t afraid to make some off-the-wall brews — famously teaming with Voodoo Doughnut in Portland to make a line of doughnut-themed ales.

If you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve Ale this weekend!

Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
