Boat Town Brewing, go check 'em out!!

The Boat Town welcome sigh
What does every craft beer nerd do whenever they are invited to an out of town wedding? They find a brewery to visit along the way. I stumbled upon Boat Town Brewing en route to a wedding. Boat Town Brewery is located off Exit 123 of Interstate 44 between Springfield and Lebanon. The are so close to the highway you can see it from the exit, so even a blind squirrel can find this nut, and is there an easier exit to remember than 123?

The brewery had eight Boat Town brewed beers on tap, one guest mead, and a guest cider. I had a pint of the Octoberfest, and it had a wonderfully smooth, malty flavor with just a hint of hops. Since I was driving, I just had a taste of their Tri-Toon tripel at 9% ABV and their Dark Horse Perfcicle at 12% ABV. Both of the high-gravity beers were equally as good, and their staff knew their beer knowledge and were extremely helpful.

They have a 7 BBL brewing system with 3 fermenters, and had several whiskey barrels aging some of their beers. After-all, Lebanon is home to a pretty big cooperage. They are only open Thursday to Sunday so no mid week drinking here, and they also have the Boondocks wood fired kitchen next door that will bring food over for you. I didn’t order anything from the restaurant, but was tempted to steal some ribs from the neighbors table. Copious amounts of swag is available in their gift shop, plus they also have the coolest beer barrel converted into a bathroom sink you have ever seen. Just to see this beast makes the road trip worth it. If you are just passing through and don’t want to drink, they have a crowler machine to enjoy once your reach your destination. I will gladly make this a stop on my next trip on I-44.

Check them out, and tell them KCbeerblog sent you.
