Arrowhead Pride Beer of the Week: 21st Amendment Brewery El Sully

Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!

As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.

The change in location for this week’s game didn’t deter me from my Beer of the Week choice — I’ve had this locked and loaded for a little while now. Fans of Mexican cerveza rejoice—this week’s Beer of the Week is 21st Amendment Brewery El Sully!

A Mexican style lager out of California? This week’s selection just made too much sense. El Sully is a 4.8 percent ABV lager made with Pilsner and Vienna malts, as well as some flaked maize. The smallest bit of bitterness makes its way into this beer with Magnum and Northern Brewer hops, but it won’t overwhelm you non-hop-heads. It’s named after one of the founders, Shaun O’Sullivan, and won the 2016 Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival. It’s a great malty, light lager — one that will be enjoyed by all types of beer drinkers.

21st Amendment Brewery was founded in 2000 by O’Sullivan and Nico Freccia, who met while attending a summer brewing class on beer science. The two entered the San Francisco beer scene, naming their brewery after the amendment to the constitution that repealed prohibition. They make some fantastic IPA offerings, from their Brew Free! Or Die West Coast IPA, their new A Terrible Idea Hazy IPA, to their Eclectic IPA series — most recently churning out a Pancake Syrup IPA brewed with real maple syrup.

So if you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some 21st Amendment Brewery El Sully this weekend!
