Welcome to another edition of the Beer of the Week!
As always, the Beer of the Week is originally presented on the Arrowhead Pride Tailgate on 610 Sports Radio as part of my Defense and Beer of the Week segment.
Throughout the year, I’ve tried to pick beers in the region of the Kansas City Chiefs’ opponent for that particular week. For this week, we’re staying right home in Kansas City.
The Chiefs are embarking on a new beginning and a new chapter in their postseason lives, with Patrick Mahomes here to #breaKtheCycle. It just made sense that I’d pick another new beginning in Kansas City for this week’s offering. This week’s Beer of the Week is Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA!

A brand spanking new 5.9% IPA, this year-round offering started in Boulevard’s Tours & Recreation Center Beer Hall under the name “TEST - El Dorado IPA”. With large doses of Amarillo, Citra, El Dorado, and — of course — Galaxy hops, this juicy IPA is full of tropical flavors and slightly sweet malts. If you like citrus flavors, this IPA is definitely for you.
I’m very fond of the label, an old-school fantasy/sci-fi comic look. Talking to the fine people at Boulevard, I learned that art director/graphic designer Frank Norton wrote the following:
“If this was to be our new heroic IPA, why not personify the beer as a heroine inspired by classic sci-fi and comic book characters? Sally Ride (the first American woman in space) was also part of this conversation. The white and red-orange body of Space Shuttle Challenger heavy influenced the color of the can. The rest of the design captures more of the exaggerated fantasy of space travel from pop-culture; like the mod fishbowl helmet and the arcade game lettering.”
The arcade game theme definitely comes through, and Boulevard is currently housing a sweepstakes involving a custom-made arcade game on their website. There are a lot of prizes to be won, so click on over and test out your old-school gaming abilities.
If you can, make sure to swing by your local liquor store and scoop up some Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA this weekend!
Check back here this time next week for the new Beer of the Week!
