When a Denny’s restaurant opens later this year in West St. Paul, beer and wine will be on the menu along with eggs, burgers and other regular fare.

If it sounds unusual, it is: It will be just the second Denny’s in the metro area — third in the state — to serve alcohol. Of the 17 Minnesota locations, only the east Bloomington Denny’s on 78th Street and the one in Otsego serve beer and wine.

This week, the West St. Paul City Council granted a conditional-use permit to Landen Management to operate as an on-sale liquor establishment in the former Buffalo Wild Wings building at 1458 S. Robert St.

Landen Management, a Denny’s franchisee with nine other locations in the metro area, is remodeling the interior and exterior of the building, said Steve Rhee, a financial officer and co-owner. The plan is to open in November, he said.
