ALE OF A TIME

Beer spas in cities like Prague and Budapest could be the ultimate stag do activity

MILLIONS of Brits like a beer – but have you ever wanted to bathe in the stuff?

Beer spas are popping all over Eastern Europe – and promise all sorts of health benefits.

Of course, you can drink as much beer as you want when you’re there, too.

This is a beer lover’s fantasy – and has to be the stag do dream. But would you take a date to a beer spa – or head to one on a romantic weekend away?

At Beer Spa, Prague, punters are offered unlimited amounts of light and dark Krušovice beer, a hop sauna and a wheat straw bed to rest in for €70 per person per hour (£61).

And Thermal Beer Spa in Budapest costs €43 (£37) for 45 minutes in the beer spa, while a tub for two people comes in at €10 (£87).

Beer Spa and Spa Beer Land’s website claims that beer bathing can aid skin rejuvenation, the reduction of stress and the easing of muscle tension.

Although we have a hunch that those last two claims could also be something to do with sinking pints.

Joshua Zeichner, MD, the Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, says bathing in beer is actually good for you though.

He told Yahoo Beauty: "Beer soaks are commonly used to treat a variety of skin issues, from anti-ageing to eczema."

Beer is also often recommended by beauty experts as a final rinse when you’re washing your hair, as it can add shine and bounce.

While beer-loving couples might want to give this a go, the spas are heavily advertised on stag weekend websites - so you might find yourself soaking next to a rowdy crew.

Any lovers looking for a relaxing session might want to splash out on a private tub instead of one of the communal rooms.

It's not just beer spas on offer - there's a swimming pool filled with beer in Austria.

Visitors to the Schloss Starkenberger beer pools can book a dip in one of seven baths for £200 for two hours.

The pools, which measure 13 feet in length, contain around 42,000 pints of different brews.

Bosses at the brewery in Tarrenz, Austria, insist booze can help cure psoriasis and heal open wounds.

Entry to the pools come with a strict warning not to drink the beer in the pool though, as it is not cleaned after each dip.

Guests can instead order fresh glasses of beer to be delivered to their pool.

There are 13 different beers, all made by the brewery in another part of the castle.

The pools have been built in the cellar of the 700-year-old castle where the brewery operates - in the old fermentation rooms.

The owners decided to turn the rooms into quirky beer baths after modern technology meant they no longer needed the fermentation cellar.

Anyone looking to try out one of the pools is advised to book early though, as staff say that they are sold out every day.

And if you haven't had enough booze by the end of the visit, there is also a whiskey distillery nearby.
