5 Talents That Drinking Alcohol May Improve

alcohol, 5 Talents That Drinking Alcohol May ImproveWith all the talk of late about the problems associated with drinking, we thought it time to touch on some of alcohol’s positives… And here are five things that apparently get better with moderate drinking…

Dancing

Let’s face it, most people feel better about getting on the dancefloor after a drink or two…We’re not saying one automatically performs better…But the relationship between alcohol and dancing goes back eons. And yes, there are some people who’ll never feel comfortable dancing whether they’re drinking or not….but many do.

And there are plenty of reasons why..

Alcohol is a fuel and that fuel translates into energy and provides for looser and more relaxed movement…and clearly lessens inhibitions. And most of us just feel more comfortable on the dance floor when drinking’s involved.

Improve Your Foreign Languages

Last October, a study conducted by the University of Liverpool, King’s College and Maastricht University in the Netherlands found that moderate drinking noticeably improves pronunciation when speaking a second language.

No one is entirely sure why this happens, but these academics affirmed, that it does in fact happen.

Jessica Werthmann, one of the researchers, said: “One possible mechanism could be the anxiety-reducing effect of alcohol.” (See Dancing)

Drinking Can Improve You Long-Term Memory

Last summer the UK’s University Of Exeter released a study which found that in spite of the half-forgotten nights that many of us have lost to over-imbibing, drinking alcohol could actually help boost memory recall of events and information learned BEFORE that period of drinking.

No one is entirely sure why short term memory is lost while long term memory is enhanced. But the study affirmed, that it does in fact happen (see Dancing and Language)

Professor Celia Morgan, a professor of Psychopharmacology at Exeter, suggests that “alcohol blocks the learning of new information and therefore the brain has more resources available to lay down other recently learned information into long-term memory”.

Drinking Improves Quality Of Life For Those Over 50

Now this is something to look forward too! The Boston University School of Medicine has found that middle-aged adults who drink alcohol regularly (and again in moderate amounts), may improve their quality of life.

‘Quality of life’ was measured by something those researchers call the Health Utilities index, which evidently looks at factors like dexterity, emotion, cognition and mobility (see Dancing).

Regular moderate drinkers showed the highest quality of life according to the Boston University’s School of Medicine …with participants who consumed no more than 14 drinks a week having better overall scores than those who abstain completely.

Alcohol Can Sharpen One’s Sense Of Smell

Who knew? Not only can alcohol heighten your command of language and make you an amazing dancer, it can also sharpen your sense of smell.

According to the New Scientist a study by researchers in Israel found that a SMALL amount of alcohol, led to lowering a person’s inhibitions (see Dancing), and those lowered inhibitions in turn, heightened their subject’s ability to detect smell.

Huge H/T to the Drinks Business
