Schlafly Pineapple IPA

This past April, Schlafly Brewing announced the release of Frugi-Four Pack, a season variety mixed pack that includes Pineapple IPA, Passionfruit Saison, Coconut Crème Ale and Tangerine Lager. Focusing on fruit-forward flavors, the brewery has crafted each beer with real fruit, not extracts or juices. Having already reviewed the Crème Ale previously, the Pineapple IPA was the first new offering from the company to get opened.

This 6% ABV IPA isn’t as fruit juicy as many other fruit-forward IPAs I’ve encountered in recent years, but it does provide a nice natural, earthy pineapple presence that I thoroughly enjoyed. Soft grapefruit and grassy/leafy hop notes combine with the pineapple nicely, working together to create a singular flavor profile. A snappy crispness brings everything to the long lasting and lightly drying finish as the pineapple lingers for a bit after each swallow.

Schlafly’s Pineapple IPA is a tasty little beer. I particularly enjoyed the earthy nature of the pineapple as it mingled with the leafy hops. I could certainly go for a few of these on the back deck, especially as the warmer weather is finally showing up this Spring. I’m looking forward to checking out the last two portions of this new seasonal variety pack.
