Summer’s “dog days” have finally arrived and so has a season that speaks to a different kind of drinking. And here are some summertime releases (and a couple of sorely overlooked year-rounds) that you might want to chase down around now.
A Tropical Trifecta (Milton, DE) – Dogfish Head is welcoming a new off-centered ale to their family and with temperatures soaring of late, its arrival couldn’t be more on time. A tropical trifecta of toasted coconut, uber-experimental hops and coconut water, Dogfish Head Lupa Luau IPA is a 7.3% ABV juicy and tropical India Pale Ale that comes summer-ready.
Something Wicked This Way Comes (Newport, OR) – Rogue Ales (& Spirits) will debut something wicked on July 21st – so you’ve been warned! Brewed with ingredients grown at Rogue Farms and aged in Dead Guy Whiskey oak barrels that were coopered at Rogue’s Rolling Thunder Barrel Works, 2017 Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is a MASSIVE 14% monster with deep sherry notes and a dark roasted malt backbone.
Ready, Set, Gose (Salt Lake City, UT) – Uinta Brewing has an absolutely “killer” year-round that we seem to rediscover every summer. Salty, tart and sessionable to the max, Uinta Ready Set Gose is a 4% ABV refresher that’s brewed to be paired with several.
Ugly Is As Ugly Does (Longmont, CO) – The brewery that led craft beer to cans, Oskar Blues has an unusual fruit-forward IPA that looks to Jamaica and Japan’s Yuzu brew for inspiration. Uber-tangy and infused with Yuzu and Ugli fruit, Oskar Blues Fugli IPA is a 5.8% India Pale with surprising blueberry notes.
Avery Gets Nutty (Boulder, CO) – Avery Brewing recently shipped the 45th release from their Barrel-Aged Series, and, truth be told, it’s a little bit nutty. Avery’s Nuttiest Professor is a humongous 15.2% ABV Barrel-aged Imperial that was successfully brewed with peanuts, an ingredient that because of their oily nature can be difficult to incorporate into beer.
