A Hanford-Tulare milk company and a Fresno coffee brewery have joined together for a new drink that will soon be in stores across the San Joaquin Valley.

The new product released by Rosa Brothers Milk Co., the Cold Brew Coffee Milk, was announced at the Lanna Coffee Co. building at 617 Broadway St. on Friday. Collaboration began between Rosa Brothers and Lanna last year after the Fresno Food Expo in July, when Rosa Brothers decided to make a coffee-flavored milk product, and they were impressed by the quality of Lanna’s coffee.

“They would do R&D, we would do R&D, mixing percentages, different types of blends, different sweetnesses,” said Rosa Brothers president Noel Rosa, “and we finally came up with what we thought tasted like a really good cold brew coffee milk.”

With its dairy located in Hanford and its creamery in Tulare, Rosa Brothers Milk Co. started in 2012 by Noel Rosa and his brother, Rolland. The dairy itself, however, has been in the Rosa family for three generations, or 65 years.

Lanna Coffee Co., which specializes in cold brew coffee, started in 2010. Lanna Coffee’s CEO Bryan Feil stated that 25 percent of the proceeds from their sales benefit the tribes in the highlands of northern Thailand where they purchase their beans.

“People want to know that the product that they purchase makes a difference in this world and in their lives,” Feil said. “And our coffee and our cold brew and our coffee beans provide clean water to the hill tribes in northern Thailand.”

For Fresno Food Expo manager Amy Fuentes, the collaboration represents an unexpected but welcome side effect of the expo, which was originally meant to simply promote food growers and producers in the Valley.

“When we started the Food Expo seven years ago, our goal was to help these local companies get in front of new customers,” Fuentes said. “What we never imagined, but we see happening, is the collaboration between companies, and the innovation that’s coming out of that collaboration is super important.”

The Fresno Food Expo will be held on July 26-27 at the Fresno Convention Center and Rosa’s cold brew milk will be among the products on display.
