Beer Clickbait – The World’s Biggest Beer Drinking Countries

So which country is drinking the most beer in the world? According to the most recent study it might not be all the usual suspects.

First of all let’s preface this discussion by acknowledging that this ranking is based on a per-capita basis, the volume of beer consumed in a country offset by that county’s population. And while these kinds of per capita charts can be fast and fun diversions…were hardly talking serious economic scholarship here.

Add to that the fact this ranking was based on 2015 data, and given today’s fast moving economic climate we gotta think things have changed significantly in different regions of the world over the last year and a half….just sayin’.

But since it’s August and the craft beer press releases have almost slowed to a halt, and many of you are coasting and in ‘clickbait’ mode…we’re running with this thing anyhow.

1. Czech Republic – 142.4 liters per capita
2. Seychelles – 114.6
3. Austria – 104.7
4. Germany – 104.7
5. Namibia – 102.7
6. Poland – 99
7. Ireland – 97.5
8. Lithuania – 97.1
9. Belize – 94.7
10. Romania – 92.1

So what’s our takeaway from this ranking (a study that Kirin Beer funded by the way)?

Probably not much different from yours…

We found the fact that the Czech Republic bested its neighbors Austria (3#) and Germany (#4) was vaguely interesting.

We also were surprised to learn that the UK came in at a lowly #27. We’ve spent many an evening out drinking beer with our friends in London and they’re borderline alcoholics…so that can’t be right.

Ireland at #7 is totally understandable (respect!). But the Seychelles at #2…really? And where are they located again?

And no Australia in the top 10? That’s gotta raise some questions about this ranking. Those people start drinking beer with breakfast.
