Unsolved Mysteries: What Happened to Doodle Brewing?

As I have been slowly and methodically going through my beer hoard, I discovered a diamond in the rough stashed in the very back. This proverbial diamond got me thinking: what ever happened to Doodle Brewing Company? Their blog was active from 2008-2011, when a young Brett Myces first learned about this mysterious Northland creation. They were one of the first breweries before the boom, and even beat Big Rip and Cinderblock to the production line. Doodle truly was ahead of its time. Blogger Gone Mild was one of the first to publish news of Doodle, and has a recap transcribed below of the forgotten wonder known as the Dubbel.

“The Dubbel Doodle is the first beer released by the Doodle Brewing Company. This Dubbel style draws on the old school Abbey beers brewed by the monks in Belgium to drink while they were fasting. The Dubbel Doodle pours a dark mahogany with a slight red at the edges of the glass. The aroma reveals a malt sweetness with hints of toffee and raisin present but not dominating. The first sip fills your tongue with a caramel-like sweetness with a slight plum/raisin aftertaste lingering. The last sip fills you with sorrow, until the next time you are able to enjoy another one of these handcrafted artisanal beers.”

Doodle was started by Nick Vaughn, who learned his craft at 75th Street and Harpoon Brewing. There is very limited information regarding Doodle, mostly snippets from their old blog detailing all the bureaucratic BS one must deal with to brew beer. Bull E. Doodle was located in Liberty, and only had one flagship beer, the Doodle Dubbel, which was first commercially available in March of 2011. It was only sold in 22 ounce “bombers,” and from what I’ve gathered was very limited in production. So now the question is, do I drink this beer, or save it for the Myces family museum?

Anyone else out there have any more information regarding Doodle and its quick disappearance? I’m moving on to trying to figure out what happened to the poor people that got suckered into giving away $41,000 to Wilderness Brewing..
