Two South Side Brewpubs Will Unleash Four Original Rainbow Cone-Inspired Beers

— Next week Chicagoans will be able to taste beers that are an homage to what may be Chicago’s most iconic ice cream shop. Popular South Side brewpubs Open Outcry Brewing Company and Horse Thief Hollow Brewing Co. will release a flight of four beers in flavors inspired by the four ice cream flavors of legendary South Side shop Original Rainbow Cone: Palmer House APA, orange milkshake IPA, strawberry imperial stout, and pistachio brown ale. The beer versions of a quintessential Chicago summer treat will be available at both brewpubs beginning on May 22 at 6 p.m.

— An employee counting money inside River North Italian icon Quartino was robbed at gunpoint at around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday night, according to multiple reports. Chicago PD are investigating and no one is in custody yet.

— Chicago Cut Steakhouse owners David Flom and Matt Moore have filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit that their investors filed against them last month, Crain’s reports. In the original suit, investors alleged that ownership denied them access to financial records, an action that caused them “to be concerned about the health of the business and the defendants’ good faith in managing it.” The new report also digs deeper into the operations of the uber-popular steakhouse’s finances and operations, including how its many celebrity customers are brought in by its investors and given free meals before management feeds the celeb sightings to gossip columnists, and how sister seafood restaurant Ocean Cut’s closing worried investors.

— Popular West and South Side spot Jerk Taco Man is attempting to expand in a very big way. Ownership, in a Facebook post to the restaurant’s page, announced “I am looking for partners to do 50 new locations throughout the United States which also includes additional Chicago locations.”

— Fat Rice, fresh off chef-owner Abe Conlon’s James Beard Award last week, will serve food and drink at Pitchfork music festival’s exclusive Plus+ section upgrade this summer. In a statement, Conlon talks about his love of music and says his restaurant will serve “OG Fat Rice dishes like Piri Piri Chicken and Curried Pork Chop Sandwiches and new fresh offerings like Commando Chips and Nuac Cham Watermelon, all with a Southeast-Asian BBQ Island vibe.” More information on the Plus+ section, which had food and drink from Land & Sea Dept and Paul McGee last year, is available here.

— And finally, here’s another Chicago restaurant-related death to sadly report. Anita Doty, the founder of beloved South Side spot Nita’s Gumbo that also recently expanded to suburban Country Club Hills, passed away on Friday from cancer. Her services will be held Friday, May 18 at Cage Memorial Chapel at 7651 S. Jeffery Avenue.
