If you've grown tired of regular old beer showers —when you drink an ice cold beer while standing in a hot shower — how about going for a beer bath? This time, unlike the aforementioned beer shower, this beer bath will actually have you lying in a vat of beer.

As Us Weekly reports, the Hinotani Onsen is a hot spring located within the Misugi Resort. The resort is about two hours from Kyoto, Japan, and their main draw is their beer bath. The bath combines homemade Japanese craft beer with hot natural spring water every thirty minutes, resulting in a foamy liquid that looks like a dark lager.

As the Misugi website states, the beer contains live yeast, carbonic acid, and enzymes in the malt that will apparently soften and clean your skin.

Part owner of Misugi Resort and brewmaster Youki Nakagawa further expanded on what he calls the health benefits of the beer baths. Nakagawa told Travel + Leisure, "The yeast in the beer gives you very smooth skin and the hops have an antibacterial power that is also good for your skin. On top of that, the C02 in the beer is good for blood circulation."

While scientists have yet to actually verify these claims, the unique experience may still be worth a try, just for fun. A 45-minute session in the beer onsen costs about $15, and the Misugi Resort suggests that you contact them in advance to reserve the bath. The resort also features a regular hot spring, along with the Hinotani Brewery, hiking trails, and cooking classes.
