Imperial Stout Aged in Jamaican Rum Barrels

Following up on the delicious fun we had brewing and sharing Requiem for a Pancake, our first Brewhouse One Series release, earlier this year, we’re excited to announce that it’s almost time to share another new, special beer with you, our friends and neighbors!

Just over a year ago, our brewing team acquired a small amount of freshly emptied Jamaican rum barrels. Interested in seeing the contributions the barrels would make to a rich, boozy imperial stout, our brewers brewed a bigger version of Dark Truth Stout and tucked it away into the rum barrels in a corner of our barrel library. After eleven months living in the barrel, our barrel-aging crew deemed the beer ready to share in this one-time, brewery only release.

Pouring deep ebony with a strong honey/caramel hue around the edges, aromas of brownie batter, bitter chocolate, coconut, vanilla and rum leap from the glass. The mouthfeel is heavy, bordering on syrupy, with strong flavors delivering on the promises made by the aromas. Lingering, drying oak notes from the rum barrels serve to punctuate the beer leading to a long lasting, finish with notes of espresso, caramel and rum.
