The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some more of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you were drinking your way through an early fall weekend.

Cantwell, Beer Buzz – New Belgium, Dick Cantwell And Oud Beersel Revamp A San Francisco Brewpub, And Eclectic IPA’s!From Bankrupt To Reborn (San Francisco, CA) – Last August New Belgium Brewing, Elysian Founder Dick Cantwell and Belgium’s Oud Beersel announced that they’d formed a partnership to purchase the assets of San Francisco’s iconic Magnolia Brewing which was in bankruptcy proceeding. Those assets included Magnolia’s Haight Street and Dogpatch locations. And the group made it pretty clear at the that time they’d be launching something new not turning them into a pair of New Belgian brewpubs.

With its considerable reputation for producing Lambic beers, Oud Beersel, is a “contributing experimenter” in the new venture. And as CraftBeer explains the Belgian brewer hopes to eventually ship their traditional Lambics to be blended with Magnolia beers in San Francisco and establish “the world’s first dedicated Lambic Blendery outside of Belgium.”

After a months-long remodel designed by Hannah Collins, Magnolia Dogpatch reopened to the public this week with a sleek new look, a smart new menu and an even more serious commitment to its brewing directions. The opening also marks Dick Cantwell’s first in-house return to brewing “since leaving Elysian, the Seattle brewery he founded after it was purchased by Anheuser-Busch in 2015.

Magnolia customers will find 20 beers on tap, according to “ SF Eater. “Classic Magnolia brews like their original Blue Bell Bitter alongside new creations from Cantwell like a cucumber Meyer lemon IPA.”

And It’s not like Dick Cantwell hasn’t been busy. In addition to overseeing the brewing directions at the revamped Magnolia, he’s also a respected author  with a new book that takes craft beer’s leading style in exciting new directions.

Brewing Eclectic IPA: Pushing the Boundaries of India Pale Ale is a high dive into craft beer’s most popular style that takes its title seriously.  Tapping into his decades of brewing experience Cantwell provides the kind of good-natured and seasoned guidance that does indeed push the boundaries of what the IPA can be…
