Those of who have been tuning into Arrowhead Pride Radio on 610 Sports Radio (every Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. Arrowhead Time) have heard me tag my segment each week with a recommended Beer of the Week.

Well this week, and every week for the rest of the summer, we’re giving you EVEN MORE DETAIL about each week’s Beer of the Week!

Before we start, let me hit you with my beer credentials. I have had the pleasure of sampling thousands of different beers of all different types, with the list growing by the month.

I’ve also been a home-brewer for the past nine years, typically churning out about 10-15 different beers a year, of all different kinds. I’ve made lagers, high-gravity stouts, sours, Belgians—just about everything under the sun with a multitude of brewing methods.

I’ve even got a setup with some family where we’re growing hops! I’ve tried just about everything I can get my hands on and as my beer tastes have grown, I actively seek out new and different brews to find flavors that will complement different styles to implement in my own brews. When I say that I know beer better than I know football, you can trust me.

On this week’s show, I made Dogfish Head’s Lupu-Luau IPA my Beer of the Week.

Recommended by my good friend, Craig, Lupu-Luau is a 7.3% IPA brewed with toasted coconut, dehydrated coconut water and experimental hops that give off strong citrus, wood and coconut flavors. This beer is a must for the coconut lovers out there.

It’s a perfect blend for a summer beer, with the initial sip packing a hop punch, then giving way to a mellow coconut flavor with little lingering bitterness left behind on the palate. It’s perfect for sitting beside a body of water as a refreshing drink, especially since it’s available in cans!

Dogfish Head Brewery is located in Milton, Delaware and is renowned for its experimental or “extreme” beers. In the past, Dogfish Head has brewed several beers based on the chemical analysis of residues found on drinking vessels from various archaeological sites with the intent of creating beers similar to those drank in ancient China, the Aztecs and King Midas!

It’s a company that really enjoys making “off-the-beaten path” beers, and the Lupu-Luau IPA is no exception.

Go out and give it a try, and we’ll see you back here for next week’s Beer of the Week!
